In this article we present the results of a qualitative research carried out in a public secondary school in the context of urban poverty and environmental degradation in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Through an interview situated at the intersection of the school space and the neighborhood environment, we describe how the everyday framework of the neighborhoodschool is characterised in spaces marked by a dynamic of lack of protection and precariousness of life. Our main hypothesis is that life there takes place in a biopolitical stage in which, while responsibilities are transferred and self-management is promoted, the vulnerability that affects the populations that inhabit the slums (and therefore their schools) in a particularly dense way is deepened. To this end, we present some of the elements that make up a cartography of the school’s present, which allows us to take into account the complexity in which urban-school inequalities and injustices are interwoven in Latin American regions. Through two episodes from fieldwork carried out in a slum, we describe what the school does/ is at the intersection of inequalities. That is, a school that is built through constant struggles and battles between making schooling possible for new generations and the daily management of multiple (in)justices.
