This essay displays some projections on the implications of the digitization of a series of texts produced by Argentine writer Lucio V. Mansilla that refer to the Chaco. First, I describe the Chaco series and trace the ambivalences of this delimitation fostered by the multiple temporalities and territories that overlap in it. Secondly, I observe the differences between the digitization of these texts and the physical materials converted into a succession of pixels. Thirdly, I take as a case study the causerie “De cómo el hambre me hizo escritor” and the proposal for its digital edition in xml-tei to analyze the “cleaning” of this article through its passage to plain text; I also explore here the methodological deployment implied in the work with a textual coding tool. Lastly, I visualize a citation network created with the open source software Gephi, that takes as its starting point the causerie “¡Esa cabeza toba!”, in order to recognize the possible uses that this type of analysis entails in relation to the study of the bibliography on the Chaco published until 1881. The web project described in this paper aims to show that new digital technologies demand and encourage new ways of approaching literary texts, and require transdisciplinary and collaborative work to achieve them.
