The article analyzes the challenges of conducting research in repressive contexts marked by multiple forms of state violence and human rights violations. It takes as a starting point the fieldwork carried out in Jujuy, Argentina, during the reform of the provincial Constitution in 2023. From a critical perspective, it characterizes the role of activist-research, drawing on concepts such as “amphibious research” and “observant participation,” which involve ethical, methodological, and political challenges. The importance of support from scientific and academic institutions is emphasized, as a safeguard against threats and stigmatization by government authorities. Finally, it reaffirms the human right to science as a guarantee for the production of critical, situated, and emancipatory knowledge, which is essential for consolidating democratic societies and strengthening the defense of other human rights.
