Whereas the first work presents both the historical figure and Haiti as symbols of Négritude, the historical essay —besides giving visibility to antillean history— attempts to obliquely reflect on contemporary issues of the moment, such as the polemic with the French communist Party and the regime of terror implanted in Haiti since François Duvalier’s rise to power.
