Based on a dialogical proposal of two ethnographic studies, in this article we describe and analyse various bonding, bodily and affective changes experienced by our research interlocutors, middle-class groups living in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in the context of pandemic confinement. We review and put in conversation the results of our fieldwork: one research linked to the body and sporting practices from the work of Nemesia Hijós with runners and amateur athletes in training groups in the City of Buenos Aires, and the other referring to housing conditions and family domestic practices in Morón (Province of Buenos Aires) from the study of María Florencia Blaco Esmoris. Both studies present the modes of construction and experience of intimacy where class demands and gender roles are articulated to cope with a social situation of “forced closeness”. Indeed, we seek to show the disruptions that occurred in the context of confinement and what were their outcomes in the “new normality”. We find that the quest to give meaning to intimate life through the search of well-being reveals crudely the modalities of control and normalisation of spatially distributed bodies, articulated with moralising narratives related to individual success, personal fulfillment, and the progressive digitalisation of life in common.
