This article examines the discourses and figurations in the graphic advertisements of the women’s magazines Cosmopolitan and OHLALÁ!. during the dawn of the Fourth Wave of feminism in the country (2015-2018). Understanding that advertising discourse and women’s magazines, as media outlets, construct gender conceptions and sensibilities, the article aims to explore the regulation of meanings about femininity during the early years of the Fourth Wave, to identify possible influences of feminist discourses in the advertisements of a media outlet historically dedicated to the construction of the feminine. The analytical methodology is based on an approach to the discursive and semiotic strategies with which advertisements construct and deconstruct gender, interrogating the operations by which they delimit the sex-gender field of the feminine. To this end, we selected 52 advertisements from Cosmopolitan and OHLALÁ! magazines, in their traditional print formats. Through this analysis, we were able to construct recurring themes and reflect on the problematic nature of the sedimentation of feminist discourses and meanings in the advertising field. While we expected to find a renewal of figurations in a period where gender was debated through feminist discourses that modified the long-established contours of the feminine, we instead found an inertia of figurations attached to postfeminism that, following the Third Wave of the movement, dethroned the place of the domestic to relocate mandates of beauty, eroticism, and proactivity there, based on a diversified global imaginary.
