This paper analyzes the short story “Lisa Hayes era del barrio Los Pinos” by Leonardo Oyola, included in the anthology Nunca corrí siempre cobré (2017), in order to determine whether the text can be classified within what we have previously termed “otaku writings”. To this end, we will begin with a brief introduction to this emerging trend within Argentine fiction, made possible both by a long-standing process of importation, consumption, and reinterpretation of Japanese mass culture, and by the development of a local industry and social sector that sustained it. We will also reconstruct the context of creation and dissemination of the anime referenced in the story: Robotech (1985), adapted by Carl Macek. Subsequently, we will identify certain recurring themes and motifs in Oyola’s creative project, before offering a detailed analysis of the short story itself.
