This article reflects on ethnographic writing through the intersections of two localized research projects conducted in Paraná (Entre Ríos, Argentina): oneconducted with students at a primary school inside a men’s prison, and another with young rappers at people attending a secondary school on the urban periphery. As researchers, we recognize ourselves within a persistent tension: on one side, we are bound to the expectations of those with whom we forge relationships in ethnographic fieldwork—relationships that are vital to the production of knowledge in ethnography in its triple sense as approach, method, and text; on the other, we face the need to materialize our trajectories into academic texts in order participate in scholarly communication circuits with peers. It is within this tension that we reflect on the place of theoretical contribution in processes involving different forms of collaborative work
