This essay aims to contribute to the public problematization of Argentina’s foreign debt by employing an approach that integrates hegemony theory with the pragmatic sociology of public problems. Our starting hypothesis is that, without an invention of the political order, it will be impossible to break free from the country’s relationship of dependency on financial power centers and from the neoliberal subjectivity that prioritizes "external obligations" over the colossal internal social debt. Without overlooking the debt’s de-structuring and structuring effects, we envision that problematizing it could serve as a pivotal factor in rearticulating the popular camp and, in doing so, reinventing democracy.
