This paper provides an analytical perspective on recipes and guidelines related to health preservation and the treatment of illnesses through natural and household resources contained in a home medicine manual published by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Such manual circulated in the central region of Argentina in the early 20th century. Through historical hermeneutical analysis, this paper inquires on the conditions of production of such manual. It considers concepts of health, illness and prevention, as well as to whom it was directed. In addition, it sheds light on rational remedies, drugs, and proposed methods of healthcare of the ill. These topics structure the analysis of this historical source which was elaborated by a committee of doctors and was intended for homemakers, key subjects of health care and household economy knowledge produced at the beginning of the 20th century.
