Experiencia de Aprendizaje Servicio con Adultos Mayores en la Ciudad de Paraná

Abstract

An inclusive educational experience is presented within the framework of the course Psychology of Adult Life and Old Age, corresponding to the second year of the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Teresa de Ávila Faculty, Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. During the course of the course, the students carried out a service-learning project whose general objective was to develop, implement and evaluate a recreational-recreational space for older adults. This experience was carried out in the facilities of the Coordination of social integration of people in street situations, under the Secretariat of Inclusive and Community Social Policies of the Municipality of Paraná and in the gerontological long-stay residence Hogar San Vicente de Paúl (institutions considered Community Partners). It should be noted that this service-learning experience has been carried out since 2022 to date. Regarding the implementation methodology: groups of 6 students were formed to develop a playful/recreational workshop for older adults. Although this workshop was put into practice by only 2 students chosen from each group, it was designed and reflected upon by the whole group. Each team, in addition to carrying out a 6-week workshop (of one and a half hours each meeting), presented a final reflection report, including theoretical and practical articulations with the theory developed in the course. During the year 2024, the project had a positive impact on the target population, as 13 recreational workshops were held between the two institutions where the experience took place. The beneficiaries participated in the workshops with a variety of activities. Among the learning generated in the students, in addition to the articulations between practice and theory, the following stand out: development of empathy, knowledge of the institutions, exercise of the interview and social commitment. They highlighted that the experience has been enriching, affective, interesting and gratifying.
