This article aims to map two artistic artifacts by Río de la Plata artists—Marosa di Giorgio’s book La falena (1987) and Beatriz Ferreyra’s electroacoustic composition Souffle d’un petit Dieu distrait (1987)—to analyze how, through the use of natural elements, they propose reconfigurations of auratic experience (Didi-Huberman 2011; Groys 2015). The hypothesis is that their treatments of nature produce: (1) untimely temporalities (di Giorgio returns her writing to an ancestral, prehistorical time when humans were not yet fully distinct from animals, while Ferreyra elevates her music toward a posthistorical future in which the human articulates itself with intergalactic space) and (2) works marked by unspecificity (musical procedures, such as montage, appear in Falena, while literary procedures, such as rewriting, emerge in Souffle…). As a result, these artifacts —conceiving time through anachronism and the arts through porosity— simultaneously unlock narratives of linear temporality and the institutional demands of autonomous art.
