This paper intends to address some alternative proposals for the imbalances of the winemaking structure, based on the diagnoses of two experts and “lencinistas” militants, Leopoldo Suárez and Francisco Trianes, who expressed their ideas about the wine crisis and the role of the State when various strategies to balance the activity had already been tried, without success. The case study allows us to discuss the relationships between expertise and the corpus of ideas that was structured based on the internal logic of the supply and demand of knowledge about winemaking in moments of profound political changes, as well as on its possible impact on crisis situations of the industry and its reconversion proposals, which were only achieved, in part, many years later.
