In recent decades it has been possible to recognize the great potential of human bone remains as bearers of biological and cultural signals that are very valuable when we attempt to know different aspects of past populations. Among these signals and / or osteological indicators are the bone changes related to osteoarthrosis or degenerative joint disease (DJD), which is a chronic and progressive pathological condition. In Bioarchaeology there has always been a tendency to establish a direct relationship between the prevalences of DJD and the use of the body and levels of general activity in ancient human populations. This work shows the results obtained from the application of two different technical-methodological proposals for the data collection and recording of degenerative joint changes. The results suggest that the technique employing a more detailed and precise description of each of the variables considered and their respective categories would be more suitable to apply in other studies because it has a more specific methodological approach. However, there is an urgent need to develop a standardized protocol for the data collection and analysis of degenerative bone changes associated with DJD.
