This article analyzes the emergence and future of the new organizational expressions of family farming in relation to the changes in public policy in Argentina between 2004 and 2023. We start from a theoretical perspective that understands public policy as a social process structured through “knots”, understood as moments of state intervention that reconfigure both the issue and the actors involved. Through a qualitative approach, based on primary information from own research and secondary information from various sources, the article shows how family farming organizations have deployed strategies of resistance and transformation in the face of changes in public policy. Based on the identification of four nodes, we examine the ups and downs that generated organizational reconfigurations and systematize a set of elements that characterize “new organizational expressions of family farming.” Finally, we reflect on the future of these experiences in the current context of deinstitutionalization that was inaugurated in 2023 with the government of Javier Milei. We conclude that we are facing an unprecedented scenario in which the role of family farming as a key actor in the production and distribution of food in Argentina is in question.
