Throughout the first decades of the twentieth century, and with the arrival of migrants from the Middle East, numerous community periodicals emerged in Buenos Aires, shaping multiple aspects of both local socio-political life and that of their homelands. Within this context, the magazine América y Oriente, edited by the Palestinian-born leader Issa Nakhleh in the mid-1950s, represented a distinctive initiative aimed at informing public opinion in Argentina and Latin America about the various issues shaping the Middle Eastern scene. This editorial project must be situated within the framework of the Peronist government, marked by the establishment of diplomatic relations with Middle Eastern countries, the dynamics involving the Arab and Jewish diasporas, and the growing resonance of the Palestinian question. At the same time, the publication sought to foster greater political, economic, and cultural exchanges between Latin America and the Arab countries during the Cold War era.
