Reconsidering the approach to racial issues in biology classes is necessary in these times. To do so, it becomes relevant to understand the ideas that both teachers and biology education students have about this issue. In this exploratory study, the conceptions of race held by 331 biology teachers and education students are analyzed, within a context marked by the "Myth of the White Argentina" and the reluctance to discuss racial issues. The results indicate that most individuals avoid the term "race," preferring "ethnicity" and associating human differences with sociocultural factors rather than biological ones. The implications of these results for teacher education are discussed.
