The present article proposes to analyze comparatively the external sector of Argentina and Brazil through the transformations that took place in the world economy from the year 2001. We will try to expose, in the first place, the characteristics of a post-neoliberal stage taking into account the ruptures and continuities that this implies. In a second moment, we will seek to understand the changes in the external sector of Argentina and Brazil since 2001 as an update of the link with the world economy: the strong commercial link with China, the export expansion of the industrialization of the raw material and its processing, and the new hierarchy of the current account in front of the place that once occupied the capital account like main mediation between both economies and the world-wide market during the neoliberalism. In this way, through a critical dialogue with the national-centered approaches that predominate in the field, we seek to contribute to the understanding of the external sector of Argentina and Brazil.
