In “Las Vélez” and Nosotros, los Caserta [Us, the Caserta] by Aurora Venturini, family configurations strain the boundaries between the public and the private. Their representation through spatial and bodily deterioration leads to the depiction of the moral and ethical downfall of a certain social sector (descendants of patricians, aristocrats, landowners). In these narratives, the female characters and lesbian relationships within the families reveal abuse and incest, while simultaneously highlighting a crucial point for questioning oppressive kinship systems. In this way, the analysis will explore, from the theories within the affective turn and gender studies, how the female characters emotionally confront their family legacy and, through their lesbian desire and practice, form incestuous bonds that dismantle inheritance, transgress the social and cultural laws of kinship and break the patriarchal genealogy.
