This article aims to describe and analyze the discourses constructed by the state regarding the social demands for the health of communities affected by agrochemical spraying in agribusiness production contexts in Argentina. The content of a report by Argentina’s General Audit Office is analyzed, with attention to both its manifest and latent content. The results present 22 manifest contents and 15 latent contents, reflecting two types of social demands on health. The former are institutional, where the repertoire is provided through state channels, while the latter have community management mechanisms. It is concluded that social demands for health transcend the local scales where they originate, dispute the truth in the face of the state discourse, and go beyond the responses that it uses to resolve them.
