Does the novel participate in the terrain of war in times of cultural battles? Can it enter, with its narrative imagination and its readable prose, into a harsh terrain of discursive and practical violence? What relationships are established between the literal and metaphorical senses of war, what battery of resources and figures are weapons of combat? This essay proposes that certain novels intervene with their narrative imagination in the cultural battles of the present, resorting to procedures that aim to enable other experiences of that present through transtemporality and to rework affective relationships in and with the world through eco-affectivity. In this way, the novel can arouse, from and beyond its specificity, discrete identifications, activations of the reader’s imagination, understandings and reflections on the world, reworking of social imaginaries and also small life practices that operate in the construction of a present that denaturalizes and deactivates war figures. To this end, the proposal of a general approach focuses on novels such as Las niñas del naranjel (2023) by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, among others.
