In the medieval cities of Western Europe, the night was the privileged space chosen by criminals to carry out illicit actions. The most common night crimes were homicide, robbery, rape of women and other situations of minor aggression associated with infractions of community norms or customary practices. In the Kingdom of Castile, the monarchy and the municipalities identified the importance of regulating night time and promoted a colonizing program of the night. In this program, the nocturnal was defined as an aggravating circumstance of justice and an increase in the penalty was established for all crimes and infractions committed during the night hours.
