The present study, cut from a broader research, aims to investigate the conceptions of elementary school teachers about the role of the interpreter of LIBRAS in the schooling of deaf students. The methodology is qualitative andinterpretative and exploratory. The strategy used is a case study, conducted in a state school of education in the stateof Rondônia. The participants were six elementary school teachers, who worked directly or indirectly withdeaf students. The collection instrument was the semi-structured interview and, for analysis, the content analysis technique in the thematic modality. The results pointed to two modes of interpretation: the first one understands that the interpreter of LIBRAS should do the pedagogical mediation in the interactions between teacher-student inthe classroom and the secondadministrative at school. Therefore, it was found that the conceptions distancethemselves from the current norms, since there is a lack of understanding of the role of the interpreter of LIBRASand the responsibility that teachers (as) (as) have in the schooling of deaf students at school.
