Fuera de tiempo: Stuart Hall

Abstract

Before becoming one of the seminal figures of the New Left Review in the 50s, Stuart Hall migrated to the imperial center remaining as foreign by the West Indian diaspora. He came to Oxford as anticolonial student, with a passionate commitment to the independence of Jamaica and the struggle against colonialism in the Third World, without being deeply engaged in Jamaican politics. In fact their family culture was very complex to him. This essay addresses the contentious relationship that Hall remained with the Caribbean political culture in the context of colonized Caribbean, in a stratified society by skin color.
