This work recovers the concept of peasant for the analysis of social subjects in horticulture, which has been neglected in studies on the subject in our country. From the notion of a modern peasant, we resume a series of theoretical discussions that enrich and complexify the analytical capacity of that category, while rescuing it from a conception that places it as a historical repository destined to disappear. Starting from a position with clear reference in the decampesinist current, a dialogue is established with various positions of the peasantist current, in particular its main reference Chayanov and the so-called neo-chayanovians trying to highlight their complementarity rather than their mutual exclusion. The recovery of these discussions is key to our approach to the Mendoza case, since it allows us to characterize and understand the reproduction practices carried out by an important portion of the horticultural producers of our province.
