This research integrates science, art, and tourism with the aim of developing an urban tourist attraction rooted in the identity of Puerto Madryn and its surrounding region. It addresses the management of cultural heritage, the public communication of science, and environmental interpretation. The main objective was to design, plan, and implement an urban tourist-recreational alternative through a mural trail that combines artistic expression with scientific content. Applied and mixedmethod in nature, the study employed collaborative and participatory methodologies, prioritising interand transdisciplinary approaches and the use of information and communication technologies. It was funded under the 2016 ASETUR Project by the Consejo Federal de Ciencia y Tecnología (Federal Council of Science and Technology) of the former Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología de Argentina (Ministry of Science and Technology of Argentina), with additional support from the Administración Portuaria de Puerto Madryn (APPM) and the Sindicato Unidos Portuarios Argentinos (SUPA). The project also received support from the Municipalidad de Puerto Madryn (Municipality of Puerto Madryn), the Secretaría de Ciencia del Chubut (Chubut Science Secretariat), and local sectoral chambers. Outcomes to date include five murals, five short documentaries, a website, brochures, signage, and podcasts/audio guides. The project’s innovation lies not in the mural trail itself, but in its socio-cultural approach within a tourism research framework, prioritising social inclusion and the co-construction of knowledge. This process fostered local identity and community ownership throughout the project’s development.
