Resumen
This article aims to investigate the national and transnational influences Mr. Lysimaco Ferreira da Costa had in matters concerning gymnastics. The time frame represents the period in which the educator was in charge of the Normal School of Paraná, in Curitiba, Brazil, and published the document “Educational bases for the reorganisation of the new secondary school of Paraná”, in which he expressed his positions about the place assigned to physical culture in teacher education. The consulted sources indicate that the educator from Paraná established a dialogue with the Argentine pedagogue Pablo Pizzurno and the medical doctor Enrique Romero Brest, as well as receiving influences from the São Paulo context. In conclusion, how he treated gymnastics was influenced by the São Paulo and Argentine context and not by a direct relationship with Europe.
