This paper discusses the figure of the Desbravador as a symbol of the colonization of the western region in the State of Santa Catarina with the objective of developing a perspective of the history and the present day of the region that recovers and values the presence of indigenous cultures and communities. The proposal uses historical elements, but has an eminently philosophical focus, based on the theoretical framework formulated by Enrique Dussel. Adopting a qualitative methodological approach, which uses interviews and oral history reports as main methods, the text begins with an exposition of the theoretical framework, followed by an analysis and deconstruction of the Desbravador´s image based on the exposed concept. Subsequently, an exhibition of the process of expelling the indigenous population from the city of Chapecó was done and of the gradual actions to erase the marks, names and places that referred to the indigenous occupation in the region. Finally, reflections on the work carried out with indigenous and non-indigenous students on the history and culture of the peoples that originally and until today occupy the region are exposed. This experience highlights the potential of educational actions as instruments for symbolic reframing and valuing the multiplicity of voices for the construction of historical reports.
