Ni supported on MgAl2O4-CeO2 was prepared using an impregnation solution with a nickel complex of 1:1 stoichiometry. The nickel coordination on the surface of dried and calcined system was evaluated by UVVis-NIR spectroscopy. TEM and HRTEM micrographs were obtained. The use of EDTA in the impregnation solution allowed to reduce the size of Ni crystallite and CeO2. The NiEDTA system was evaluated in the ethanol steam reforming reaction varying the temperature, catalyst weight and feed ethanol fraction. The increase in the temperature promotes the increase in the hydrogen selectivity and the decrease of carbon deposition. The NiEDTA system showed a good behavior in the ethanol steam reforming reaction even in less dilute operating condition.
