This article aims to examine the role of two mechanisms – homogenisation and fragmentation – in the maintenance of agro-extractivism in Argentina. The analysis is conducted along two axes: that of space and that of knowledge. Firstly, this article analyses the ordering of rural space in Argentina and the manner in which these criteria shape the experiences of affected communities in the context of struggle. Conversely, it presents a reconstruction of the categories employed to determine what is regarded as waste, weeds and good yields. Furthermore, the role of scientific evidence in socio-environmental conflicts arising from the impact of pesticides is examined. Methodologically, a review of specialised secondary sources is carried out in dialogue with primary sources. The conclusions suggest that this dynamic has the effect of homogenising the configuration of the territories, while simultaneously fragmenting their social and environmental impacts, turning them into isolated events despite their systematic recurrence.
