From a research study on the Jewish religious group Habad Lubavitch, the next paper explores a possible use of the concept of center and periphery. The paper aims at explore the possible uses of these concepts when analyzing the experiences of identification with the lubavitcher category. Rather than classifying social actors as centrals and peripherals, the concepts can be used in order to account of processes rather than substances. In this sense, the author shows that the reenactment of both central and peripheral positions is based on different rationalities and that the identification process is of ambiguous nature.
