This paper explores the relationship between the labour insertion conditions of individuals and the reproduction conditions of households in terms of their expenditure on education, health and paid domestic work, based on data from the latest Household Income and Expenses Survey (ENGHo 2017/2018). Our study classifies households into five different groups: households with all their workers in the formal sector, households with their main income earner in the formal sector and at least one worker in the informal sector, households with their main income earner in the informal sector and at least one worker in the formal sector, and households with all their workers in the informal sector. The main hypothesis guiding our inquiry is that different forms of labour market insertion reflect on the sphere of family reproduction, resulting in differences in terms of consumption patterns in the three types of expenditure considered, which replicate and exacerbate the inequalities present in the labour market.
