Hybrid seed production can be affected by foreign pollen contamination, originating in wild plants. Helianthus annuus sp. annuus is a wild sunflower form introduced in our country that is widespread in at least seven central provinces. Molecular markers allow to evaluate genetic variability of wild materials and constitute tools able for detect foreign pollen during hybrid sunflower seed obtain. Ten wild naturalized populations of Helianthus annuus sp. annuus were analyzed by ISSR and SSR molecular markers. Local populations showed higher level of genetic variability than cultivated lines and also they conserved significant genetic diversity in comparison to its center of origin. These wild sunflower populations represent an important source of novel genes for improving sunflower crop. Nine ISSR private bands and 21 SSR private alleles of wild sunflower were found; they become useful markers for evaluation of wildcrop gene flow, allowing early detection of contamination in lots of hybrid seed production.
