Impacto del gasto en salud en el status de salud poblacional: el caso argentino

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo analizar el impacto de los recursos asignados al cuidado de la salud sobre el status de salud poblacional en Argentina. Para cumplir con el objetivo se analiza en primer lugar cuáles son las variables que determinan el status de salud de una población en términos generales y el peso relativo de cada una de ellas sobre la producción total de salud. En la segunda parte se muestran algunos indicadores sanitarios de Argentina en relación al resto del mundo, en un intento de especificar el nivel de salud de nuestra población. Dadas las diferencias encontradas en relación a los resultados de salud pese a no manifestarse grandes discrepancias en términos del gasto total asignado como porcentaje de PIB, en la tercera parte se examinan las posibles causas de dicho fenómeno. Finalmente, y a modo de conclusión se exponen posibles estrategias para conducir el gasto en salud hacia políticas sanitarias que conlleven a mejores resultados.The objective of this work is to analyze the impact of the resources assigned to health care on the population's health status in Argentina. In order to reach this objective, in first place, we analyze which are the variables that determine the health status of a population in general and the relative weigh of each of them on the whole health production. Secondly, we show some health indicators in Argentina in comparison with the rest of the world, in an attempt to specify the health level of our population. Given the differences found regarding the health results in spite of the fact that no great discrepancies were found regarding the total expense assigned as GDP percentage, in the third part we examine the possible causes of such phenomenon. Finally, as a conclusion, we present possible strategies to lead health expenditures towards health policies that imply better results.
