This paper focuses on a number of political writings and speeches published by the Argentine intellectual Leopoldo Lugones in the 1910s. The goal of the paper is to seach on the stances taken by one of the most influential intellectuals of the time on the "national issue", the reform of the voting system, the Argentine position vis-à-vis World War I and the Russian Revolution are discussed, as well as their impact on the cultural field. But also the goal is shed light on the dynamics of the relation between intellectuals and politics in the years immediately previous to the split into facism and communism.
