This paper aims to address what urban audiences mean when they talk about violence and fear regarding media consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures of Preventive and Obligatory Social Isolation (ASPO) and Preventive and Obligatory Social Distancing (DISPO) enforced by the Argentine government (2020-2021). In order to develop a study on media reception, semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals over 18 years-old living in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Among the main findings, we noticed that people talking about violence and fear in media content imply issues going beyond the pandemic or the perception. of unsafety. In fact, violence and fear are rather to how current affairs are framed, to genres and formats addressing them (as non-fiction genres that are classic in broadcasting), as well as issues linked to media routines regarding their role as institutions regulating what is visible and worthy to say in a convergent society.
