This paper reconstructs the history of SIDE's qualifying commissions between the fifties and seventies based on the existing documentation of the Fondo DIPPBA. These committees decided whether people, books and entities were (or not) communist, which resulted in prohibitions and penalties. The research sheds light on the origin, the composition, the itinerary and the workings of these commissions, as well as the consequences of their decisions for the people imputed. In turn, it allows us to observe the early collaboration of the different intelligence services of the armed and security forces, their national reach, the growing centralization and sharing of the information produced and the role played by these commissions in the strengthening the information community. Finally, the research shows that, if legislation amplified at the time the concrete effects of the qualifications, these transcended the legal framework, in particular, in the case of public workers.
