With the rise of the theories of rebuttable reasoning (mainly in AI), a new classification of arguments has been created (relatively to traditional logic), wich distinguishes between deductive arguments and defeasible arguments. Such distinction involve two basic assumptions: defeasible arguments are non-monotonic, and deductive arguments are non-defeasible. In this work we show the problems caused for those assumptions, as well also the problems caused for the usual definition of “defeasible argument”. For that objective is adopted the methodological position of distinguish between the logical and the dialectical aspect of argumentative phenomenon. Finally, it is proposed an alternative criterion for a classification of arguments which avoids the aforementioned problems.
