This article analyses how care strategies are constructed in a group of centenarians in Argentina. Based on a qualitative design, which included twenty in-depth interviews, five ways in which centenarians and their families resolve care were identified: family support for instrumental and advanced activities; permanent family care; paid care and telecare in the home; highly complex home care; and long-stay residences. The analysis combined the contributions of the care diamond and progressive care modalities. Undoubtedly, it is the family that is the main caregiver, either by providing care directly or by seeking support from market institutions that it finances and supervises. Thus, the ageing of families and the coexistence between caregivers and cared-for persons, of several generations, is not considered in the design of policies and actions that seek a resolution with shared responsibilities.
