This work proposes a rereading of the concept of «cultural industry» initially formulated by Horkheimer and Adorno, based on other interventions by Adorno. The preliminary hypothesis of the work affirms the incorrectness of the usual interpretation that reduces it to being the operative concept of a modernist hierarchization of culture, and sustains the need to place it as the linchpin of a dialectic of mass culture. Once the modernist mistake has been cleared up, and from a philosophical reading of it, we argue that the concept occupies a key role in the project of a general critique of the equivalence of profound implications today. In it, the critique of merchandise and the critique of metaphysics are intertwined in the same philosophical program of profound relevance even today. Finally, montage is postulated as one of the privileged forms of inscription of inequivalence in the very structure of the cultural industry, thus transforming itself not only into an aesthetic device but also into an eminent form of materialist interpretation.
