The factors that determine and regulate the diurnal butterfly diversity in central Argentina are commented and discussed, with mainly of anthropic and seasonal climatic factors (either direct or indirect) with water as a determining factor. It is concluded that for geographic reasons and yungas influence, the northern sector of the area presents greater lepidopteran biodiversity, and future surveys can increase the known richness to the present. There are 14 new records for the area, mostly taken through in situ photographs in the provinces of Santiago del Estero, Córdoba and La Rioja. The site with the greatest diversity, the Guasayan mountain range, brings 27 species that were not previously known there, 102 species are known at present. Comments are also made on known species of yesteryear but have found again.
