In this article, we characterize, from four axes, the socio-politicalenvironmental complex framework that is constructed in the territories from the extractive mega project “Vaca Muerta”. We approach the historical context in which its condition of possibility arises in Argentina, the rationality that is brought into play when the extractive processes are implemented, the public-private relationship that makes feasible the deepening of the fossil energy matrix and the —differential— role of the productive matrices in the social construction of the territories and of the models of regional social exchange. For this analysis, we use official secondary information, data generated by the Observatorio Petrolero Sur, and primary sources of two research projects of this University, of which we are members. Likewise, we reflect on the type of knowledge that can be generated from transdisciplinarity, as it enhances the dispute to the hegemonic narrative about the innocuousness of this model for life.
