This essay consists in a critical reflection about the premises offered by Pierre Chaunu in his monumental work «The Pacific in the Iberian World» written more than half a century. After reviewing the methodological limits and inconveniences of the official sources for dealing with the history of commerce from the Pacific, some conceptualization, terms and phenomena that Pierre Chaunu identify as reliable and vivid expressions of what truly was the Pacific in the Spanish monarchy in his large duration, from the end of xvi century to the beginning of the xix century, period of emancipations of the Ibero-American states, are discussed.
