This research is framed in the contributions of economic anthropology, to analyse socio-productive processes in the ‘cordon platense’, one of the main centres of vegetable and flower production in Argentina. It explores the articulation between labour and capital, examining different forms of subsumption of domestic-productive units. In particular, it highlights the subsumption of social relations to capital, which, in the case study, are structured on the basis of kinship networks, kinship, neighbourhood and com/padraje. Through these relationships, material and immaterial goods circulate in the form of gifts and counter gifts, as well as others that are safeguarded and only exchanged within these networks. These processes, which are intertwined with unequal gender relations, are fundamental for the social reproduction of the sector, both in terms of sustaining people and in the production of fresh food and cut flowers. In this way, the work of social reproduction represents an expense that is not incorporated into the total value of the crops, while at the same time constituting the basis on which it is possible to transform the socio-productive reality, given that these social relations drive the adoption of agroecology as a reproductive strategy that breaks, through different degrees of gradualism, with the use of inputs and techniques characteristic of the prevailing agricultural system, which is highly dependent on them.
