There is an agreement on the importance and centrality of causation, not only in terms of conceptual organization and reasoning, but also in relation to the organization of text information. This paper attempts to review some of the research that studies and analyzes the problem of causality at discourse level. The causal dimension is understood in a broad sense: all cause-effect semantic relations as well as those that suspend or break basic expected causal relations. I will comment on some of the most relevant models and psycholinguistic studies that investigate the process of this type of semantic relations in discourse and its articulation with the conceptual organization of our mental representations.
