This paper investigates ordering and self-organization in an XY model composed of magnetic dipoles, focusing on the spontaneous generation of structures such as vortices and anti-vortices through computational simulations. It explores how simple microscopic interactions lead to large-scale complexities and how the alignment of spins at low temperatures can be interpreted as the system’s effort to minimize its Helmholtz free energy, in line with the second law of thermodynamics. The relevance of Helmholtz free energy is discussed, especially at low temperatures, where energy minimization becomes more critical than entropy increase. This work contributes to a better understanding of the dynamics and thermodynamics of complex systems, offering interdisciplinary perspectives for studying emergence phenomena, phase transitions, and self-organization.
