This article analyzes the oppositional strategies adopted by the Argentine Communist Party (PCA) from the beginning of Arturo H. Illia’s government in October 1963 to the coup d’état of June 1966. It will focus on the reconstruction of the political and ideological stances expressed by the party publications, the periodical press and other official sources regarding the main conflicts of the period and the national government’s decisions. It suggests that the PCA oppositional strategies were ambiguous and they can be defined as semi-loyal to the democratic regime, from a characterization of the national government that questioned its legitimacy of origin.
