The aim of this article is to offer an interpreted reconstruction of the main political-theoretical undertaking of Étienne Tassin (1958-2018), his theory of cosmopolitics, as a political philosophy of the present. For this, we shall analyze his main productions as well as the public interventions he has upheld in recent years on the critical situation of migrants in Pas-de-Calais, France. Our argument will follow three steps: first, we will restore the author’s diagnosis of our age ("Analytic of wordlessness"); second, we will expose the theoretical development he offers as a response to that diagnosis ("Typology of cosmopolitism"); and third, we will intend to shed light on the horizon of action towards which he projected his political philosophy of the present ("A philosopher in the jungle: Étienne Tassin's paradox").
