This article reviews the access conditions to energy services in deprived neighborhoods of Argentina. For this sake, we use the National Registry of Deprived Neighborhoods database. The database is studied using vector analysis to determine the most frequent combinations among types of electrical connection, energy used for cooking, and energy used for heating. We argue that the current concept of energy poverty needs a redefinition to avoid invisibilizing the situation of approximately 10% of the population that does not have formal access to energy services. To this end, the problem is characterized by identifying the cases of greatest vulnerability, not just focusing on regional trends. We found that most of the deprived neighborhoods have informal electrical connections, gas cylinders for cooking, and biomass burning for heating, except in Buenos Aires and the center of the country, where most deprived homes use electric heaters. Finally, we also noted that in all regions of the country, there are, to date, more families without access to electricity than families with access to alternative energies.
