This article analyzes processes of urban vacuum carried out since 2002 in the Vallcarca neighborhood of Barcelona as a particular way of "producing the city". Secondly, it tries to study the projects of urban (re)filling of urban vacuum both from the State and private capitals as well as from neighborhood associations that, based on alternative projects, claim other possible uses of the city associated with the reproduction collective habitat. The objective is to analyze the disputes over the social production of space between different social actors who come into conflict over the definition of legitimate and illegitimate uses of the city. The research methodology consisted of conducting and analyzing in-depth interviews and observations in the neighborhood studied. Besides, the neighborhood assemblies were attended and a corpus made up of journalistic articles and material published in the blogs of the neighborhood organizations was organized, which allowed a diachronic study of the analyzed case to be carried out. Besides, photographs of the study area were taken. Throughout the investigation we observed that the Vallcarca neighborhood suffered a triple process of urban emptying: active material emptying, passive material emptying and symbolic emptying.
